Map by precinct of Tuesday's #TN07 Special Election where Matt Van Epps (R) won by an 8.8pt margin. Van Epps' rural and suburban votes held strong while State Rep. Aftyn Behn (D) closed some of the gap with an overperformance in Nashville's core.

Also a map comparing the 2024 Presidential numbers with this race in #TN07. Behn outperformed Harris by 20-30 pts in much of Nashville and a 42pt swing in one box downtown.

Obviously 2/3 of #SCOTUS is corrupt. Nearly all their rulings should be overturned later, like the #Taney court likely should've faced (maybe they did?) One thing about heavy #gerrymander is those "likely R" districts are more tenuous. Even with #TN07 size swings, #TX #Republicans may regret this.

This preliminary review analyzes precinct-level results from Montgomery County, one of 14 counties in CD-7 #TN07 #Manipulation? 🤔

The GOP is deeply unsettled by the big Dem showing in #TN07. On The Downballot podcast this week, @[email protected] & @[email protected] explain why they're right to be. We also geek out w/Lou Jacobson about the Almanac of American Politics, a seminal resource for all political nerds. Listen here!

The Downballot
Someone on The Downballot Discord said that for Dem chances of taking back the House next year, a D+13 result with *high* turnout in #TN07 (i.e., what we saw) is better than a D+22 result (i.e., a Behn victory) with low turnout would have been. I couldn't agree more.

The dark-money Third Way slammed Aftyn Behn in #TN07, who won a plurality in the October primary, for "politically toxic positions." She over-performed by 13.7 points.

Their statement did not mention gerrymandering, which their congressional allies preserved nationwide...

In 2021, the Dems' For the People Act included legislation that would have banned partisan gerrymandering.

“TN-07 is headed for a rematch next November. Tonight’s special: Van Epps (R) beats Aftyn Behn — but she nearly cracked a Trump +22 gerrymander. Nashville + Middle TN’s nonwhite communities split across 3–4 districts. Courts shrug. GOP wins by design. #TN07 #Gerrymandering #TNPolitics
Even if every one of the votes for the 4 3rd-party candidates would've gone to Van Epps she still would've kept it within 6 points. That's a 17-point overperformance for @[email protected] vs. Trump's performance a year ago in #TN07. She should be damned proud.
@aftynbehn.bsky.social almost beat GOP gerrymandering—but almost wasn’t enough. Trump +22 in a district carved to rig the outcome 💙🗳️ Middle TN’s nonwhite communities—Nashville itself—torn apart across 3–4 districts. Courts shrug. GOP wins by design. #Gerrymandering #TNPolitics #TN07 Well done
A more moderate Dem candidate *might* have made #TN07 a bit closer tonight, but it's extremely hard to say they could have made up ~7 points. And for once, the GOP did not pick a bumbling weirdo. This is the guy Conor Lamb beat!
