🐿️As a white Southerner in the United States, I am deeply appalled. Words absolutely fail to describe how this gerrymandering could downspiral from the loss of political representation for Black Americans to loss of professional opportunities and individual personal freedoms. And don't get me started about educational equality. This is an outrage, and an assault against the memory of the Black slaves whose labor literally built the Southlands from the ground up. It's a misery and a heartbreak for their descendants, many of whom still live in poverty, oppression, and injustice.

abeorch@mekkaokereke You probably know this but I woukd give #nytimes the benefit of the doubt. Maybe their intention was to show that #gerrymandering is bad for everyone to encourage everyone to be against it rather than being bad..but only for a group that most of their audience may not belong to.
The issue with implenting a #gerrymander is is bad for everyone. Its bad even for the people that its been supposedly implemented to benefit.

On the redistricting thing, sometimes I feel like Ferguson has been making the case against it based on how the fact that the court has many #Hogan appointees on it means that the map would get burned, but then other times makes the case that gerrymandering is just bad full stop.
I kind of lean towards the #Democrats playing hardball, honestly. Tit-for-tat.
