Just about everything that I read in English these days, including news reports and op-eds, are all AI generated text. It seems no one is writing anything anymore.

Plastic plastic everywhere.

#SyntheticText

This is precisely the right model to have for LLMs. They are optimizing for "is this a suitable reply to this entry text". And *the entire conversation* is fed back as the new entry text.

It is still remarkable that the result of that optimization can give something that it is occasionally useful, but it also provides a mental model that makes confabulations all the more likely.

Just came across this insightful article on watermarking for large language models! πŸ“ It explores how watermarking can help distinguish between human and AI-generated text, ensuring responsible usage. A great read for anyone interested in the responsible use of AI technology!https://go.nature.com/3Abhjt1

@nextcloud When we see some, I think we should get excited.

These impressive mislabeled products and toys are neither artificial nor intelligent.

Their output is almost universally improperly labeled as content, history, fact, art, news, assistant, acceptable code and useful search results without proper human verification.

#SyntheticText #SyntheticImage #SyntheticVoice mandatory labels would be exciting news this year.

Artificial Artificial #ArtificialIntelligence: Crowd Workers Widely Use Large Language Models for Text Production Tasks #LargeLanguageModels #LLMs are remarkable data annotators. ...We reran an abstract summarization task from the literature on #Amazon #MechanicalTurk and, through a combination of keystroke detection and #SyntheticText #classification, estimate that 33-46% of #CrowdWorkers used LLMs when completing the task. https://arxiv.org/pdf/2306.07899.pdf
So on the one hand I’m sad that #SearchEngine #usability is probably going to get a lot worse with all this cheap #SyntheticText flooding the internet, but on the other hand, #Search was already pretty thoroughly enshittified by #SEO and the general β€œContentℒ” mindset so Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―
