Leaves of elder trees were affixed to windows and doors as protection against fairy powers.โ€œ

#WyrdWednesday #Celtic #Superstitiology: Fire has always been an important part of Oie Voaldyn (the evening of 30 April; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJV0zZf2zM0&pp=ygUSQnVybmluZyB0aGUgQnVpdGNo), as its use to ward off evil is believed to reach back into the pre-Christian era. โ€˜They thereby burned all the witches and fairies which they believe take refuge there after sunset.โ€™
โ€˜It was to keep the evil spirits away,โ€™ said Lennie Kerruish, โ€˜they reckon that when you lit the bush and it started to burn, the crackling sound was the spirits getting cooked away.โ€™

#WyrdWednesday #Celtic #Superstitiology: โ€žOne of the most important things to do at this time of year is to protect your household with a crosh cuirn - a small cross made out of sticks and wool - which should go up on your doors before the first of May. This will protect you against evil spirits (including witches and the mooinjer veggey) over the coming year.โ€œ

He only missed one year, and had a bad tractor accident which he attributed to his failure to carry out the ceremony. Charlie really believed that this ritual would rid the farm of witches. His father had always done it, and older Cronk y Voddy people like Donald Cannan remember many other farmers doing it as well.`

In the Middle Ages, many people believed the classical philosophers and poets had been so wise that they must have mastered magic. Welsh sorcerers such as Ceridwen consulted the books of Aristotle and Virgil to learn how to cast their spells.

The McPherson Playhouse theatre in Victoria, BC has supposedly received visits from the "Grey Lady" over the last 75 years. This female ghost wears a long, blue-grey dress and wanders the theatre's balcony; sometimes she floats above the actors. No one knows her true identity.
