The titular 'Tetherstones' in a story by Ethel M Dell, published in The Strand Magazine, June 1923. Needless to say, the Tetherstones are weird and creepy with an uncanny reputation. The name refers to the human sacrifices who were tethered to them (of course)! #StandingStoneSunday #BookChatWeekly
In 1902 'The Strand Magazine' serialized 'The Psammead' by Edith Nesbit. On book publication it was renamed 'Five Children and It' (not to be confused with killer clown). Here the youngest of the five tries to make friends with the bad-tempered hobgoblin. #BookWormSat #BookChatWeekly #fairystories
"The baby lay wide awake in its crib, staring with deep, sharp blue eyes. 'It's not nice being afraid of the thing you birthed.' Her whisper lowered. 'He lies there, listens to us talking, waiting for you to go away so he can try to kill me again!' #WyrdWednesday #RayBradbury #BookChatWeekly
Try and get hold of a copy of 'House Mother Normal' by B S Johnson (1971) if you can. Set in an old people's home, it's one of the most original, gruesome, hilarious black comedies I've read - and with an ending so shocking and disgusting even I didn't see it coming. #WyrdWednesday #BookChatWeekly
