In Welsh mythology, the magical pig Henwen gave birth to a kitten who grew to gigantic size and cruelty. The Cat of Palug slaughtered 180 warriors on the Isle of Anglesey before it was slain by King Arthur's brother Kay (or by Arthur himself in later versions).

"When first I came, this valley was a wooded glen. A race of men came and rooted it up. There grew a second wood, and this wood is the third. My wings, are they not withered stumps? Yet all this time, I have never heard of the man you seek."
- "Culhwch & Olwen" (Welsh folktale)

In Welsh folklore, Sir Owain (one of King Arthur's knights) finds his way to a hidden fairy valley. In the middle of the valley is an enchanted fountain beside a marble slab. If the fountain's water is splashed on the slab, thunder will boom, and the sky will rain stones.
