I grew up absolutely worshipping #JimiHendrix. Over the years I’ve covered a lot of great classic bands and players—Yes, Zappa, Steely Dan—but I always had too much reverence (and fear?) to cover Hendrix. Finally the guys at one point about 10 years ago convinced me to take a crack at this tune from #BsndOfGypsies. Here’s the rehearsal.

When bassist E. Scott Warren’s father passed away, Scott asked that we record this tune as a memorial. It’s a piece by #JoshHaden. We adopted the arrangement recorded by #PatMetheny and #CharlieHaden. I’m playing my #weissenborn and various guitars. I played the keys part with a #Suhr #strat tuned in the African #MiCompose style. Scott is a grad of North Texas jazz program and has been a go-to session player for decades.

Frank #Zappa now gone 29 years. One of his last requests was that no one ever cover Zoot Allures. So in the true spirit of Zappa we covered it every night. Here's our take on it. One of the first times I really got to take the #TwoRock Custom Reverb for a good ride. Playing a #Suhr #stratocaster. A little envelope filter at the end, to boot! Leo Kishore on bass, Ted Sampson on keys, Mike Rosado on drums. 2005 at the old Tavern in Durham NC.
