A couple of weeks ago I asked for advice about recording in our tiny, noisy rehearsal place. I got lots of excellent ideas - thanks to all of you!
I ended up recording with 2 microphones into my focusrite. One on the floor facing the drums but away from the kick + close to the bass amp, the other mic at the end of the room.
The result was not mindblowing or anything close but still enough to learn…

The riff I was thinking of - that comes after the chorus - was picked, tho.

Trying to trade for one of these Lichtlaerm Thorn distortion pedals. Excited to try a new-to-me heavy distortion circuit. I am also in the “distortion is distortion and listeners may not hear small differences” but I enjoy gear so this is just a little treat for myself.
Working out chords to Where the Rose Is Sown - Big Country. I don't have a feel for the traditional Scots music they're based in. The harmonies aren't obvious to me.
I don't have the chorus right yet.
(Or the bass line. Or most of the lead part - I love the bagpipe-y sound of the lead!)

Today is our official album release #gig, at the Fiddler's Elbow, so here's today's board.
The Simplifier had a great debut on Friday, hope it will continue to simplify tonight. I also used the Klinger Mk1 for anything high gain. Sounds great, but the switch sits fairly high, and it is a tall pedal, so there were a few miss-steps. Need to be more careful today.
I also put on the Maxon in place of the Riot, just to have something sounding slightly different than a modded Marshall.
We had a gig in York today, but I wasn't too happy with my performance. I had a case of super glue fingers, meaning my fingers get sweaty and sticky, and moving up or down the strings gets hard and imprecise.
I suspect I sweat more on some stages due to the lighting or the air in the club. I will start experimenting with talcum powder at the next gig, maybe that helps. Any #gearsquad people have other recommendations?
