Crappy sleep including an hour awake in the middle of the night thanks to fever + sore throat.

But still up at stupid o'clock and working from home ( #StayHomeWhenSick please) because my brain is not yet at the vegetate-on-the-couch-sick yet.

At least I "get out" of going to the office tomorrow by playing the "Responsible Adult" card.

Me: Germany's employers are unhappy as employees are off sick so rarely that, on average, they finish with 22 days of unused fully-paid sick leave a year.

Them:

"workers missed an average of 19.4 days of work due to illness in 2023, a record high.

These findings haven’t been lost on Germany’s employers, who don’t sound convinced that their employees are genuinely ill

German laws allow workers to take six weeks of sickness leave while receiving full pay, which has frustrated some employers."

Meanwhile 19 days of work missed is about 1.5 mild 2-week COVID infections, about right for 3x infections a year with half asymptomatic!

I spent nearly 2 decades in the restaurant industry. I was out long before #covid19 , but I knew that not just the lack of #paidsickdays but enforcement of health codes requiring contagious people not to handle or serve food would be a problem. Even for those who could afford to #StayHomeWhenSick many establishments regularly pressured servers and kitchen staff to come in, even when quite visibly ill.
