A Silicon Valley VC Got Israel Starlink Access Within Days of October 7 Attack

During a webinar hosted by Israel’s Defense Ministry, Sequoia Capital partner Shaun Maguire discussed helping connect Israel with SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet far earlier than was known.

And here is the rest of the images - the set I excluded from the first post.

Do astrophotography, they said.
It’ll be fun, they said.
Take pretty photos of comets, they said.

And once again #comet12p is #starlinked #spamlink #astrophotography #astrodon

The setting Milky Way and spamlink flares.

Last night I went to snap some photos of the Milky Way, which is now setting around midnight and is more or less parallel with the horizon from here as it does so.

Over the course of about 20 minutes, I saw several dozen bright flares low on the south western horizon, some as bright as magnitude 0. This is a stack of 5 x 30 second exposures.

The stars at top left are ⍺ and β Centauri.

:catho_marxiste:

@ben Yep, noté, j’y reviendrai. En attendant, ça y est : #starlinked

This composition that I made last year, titled "Starlinked" (*), became surprisingly popular in Twitter back then. However, it's getting "likes" and retweets again. I wonder why... As I'm about to leave Twitter (still many important contacts there...), here's a reminder of my "appreciation" for this person and for his lack of care and interest in the #NightSky and #astronomy.

(*) The hashtag #Starlinked is not mine, but I can't find the original author... Maybe he's deleted his account...?

Some comets #starlinked last year...
And now, also the bluebird.

If you weren't aware, astronomers don't have a great relationship with Musk. A big issue for us is the Starlink satellites, which due to their low altitude and high number, already regularly interfere with ground-based observations. #starlinked on Twitter has endless examples.

We get told it's the "price of progress" and that SpaceX will make space telescopes cheap anyway. But that's BS: development of advanced space tech is much more expensive than the launch.

Elon Musk’s Starlink satellites are still too bright

Who will save the night sky? Astronomers’ views of the stars are being dimmed by the bright satellites of Elon Musk’s Starlink.
