EdInitial setup and experiments with Spacebar actually went pretty well! Hype to get some friends accessing the instance from outside my home network and see how it handles that. :O

so it's kinda like Discord except not propietary spyware BS while also not suffering from Matrix or XMPP jank

tyilToday I tried out #RevoltChat and #SpacebarChat, free and open source, selfhostable alternatives to #Discord. Neither of them "Just Work", even when following their documentation to the letter.
Revolt's setup doesn't include the voice server, since it is still a WIP, but without it, you can't have voice chat, the whole reason for having such a service in the first place.
Spacebar's setup comes with container images which are about a year old, and when asking about it in their Matrix channel, it turns out they don't support these anymore and that you shouldn't be using them.
Which leaves me to believe that in 2025, #Mumble is still the best voice chat available. The only downside is that the mumble-web project doesn't seem to work with the latest mumble server deployment, so there's no "easy" webui to use.

It now has search, a skin color picker and emoji categories!!! I've also refined the design a lil more since the other day. So far so good π
Aliberk Sandıkçı@voj What about #Fosscord (or #spacebarchat with its new name) ? I guess there is two different #foss project that trying to clone #discord UI. But #spacebarchat also trying to make their project compatible with official discord servers. Probably they just doing #reverseengineering
