6. Riding the Southwest Chief to New Mexico (what a name)

It’s sunset soon but I’m pretty sure I’ll wake up to some incredible desert views. I’ve never been south or southwest

The cost of riding this train in coach is usually $78ish between LA and Albuquerque, with highest prices around 200+ if you book super late. But I’m riding it as part of my rail pass

Edit: forgot my Southwest Chief fun fact. This route (which runs LA to Chicago) is pretty much the modern version of the Super Chief. There used to be a San Francisco Chief that did San Francisco to Chicago, between 1954 and 1971

I’m on the #SouthwestChief #Amtrak train from #KC to Chicago for spring break with JLJ2 (he’s 13.) The train takes ~7 hours and our tickets were the same price Southwest which would have had us there in under an hour. But I’ll tell ya, it’s a very different experience. Overwhelmingly positive. Makin’ memories with my son 🥰

#BoringTravel Got distracted, forgot to announce leaving #LosAngeles on time on #Amtrak train 4, #SouthwestChief to #Chicago. Lost a few minutes here and there to freight interference, then many more at #Barstow to same. Arrived about ten minutes late but have been waiting for a signal to depart for more than 40.

I had a gazillion Amtrak miles so Ms 11 and I are taking the train from Albuquerque to Brooklyn. (#SouthwestChief to the #LakeshoreLimited to the F train 😁)

As is traditional for me on a #train, I've been splitting the time between writing, being delighted by things, and photographing birds out the window. Well, mostly failing to photograph birds, but I like this one.
