Capos are not cheating. They're a creative tool.
Same shapes, different voicings. A capo on 2nd fret turns G-C-D shapes into A-D-E sounds with open string resonance you can't get from barre chords.

Today's #songwriting exercise is to practice rhyming. Pick a short phrase (or pull one from something you’re writing — you’re writing things down, right?)
My first example is:
Fortress of obsession
Now take the last word and come up with rhymes.
Examples for obsession:
Confession
Discretion
Impression
Freshen
Procession
Then once you’ve got around 10 rhymes, try to come up with a story using these end rhymes.
Second, do the same thing but with an internal rhyme. For example:
Walls of _never_ ending light
Rhymes for never:
Forever
Clever
Endeavor
Maybe even something that weakly rhymes like “heather”! Now write lines using the internal rhymes.
Just finished watching an amazing documentary on multi-talent Dory Previn, 'On My Way To Where' https://www.pbs.org/video/dory-previn-on-my-way-to-where-xq1urb/
So happy to have been one of the Kickstarter backers for this delicate & complex project to have been brought to beautiful fruition. How could you summarize & enliven all that wit, soul, tragedy, resilience? But they did.
Thinking of my mother & Uncle Larry who loved her music as I watched. 💖
