My #SaturdayOnStage píck for today is an uptempo number from the 1959 Alan Freed movie "Go Johnny Go!":

The Flamingos: Jump Children (1959)

Although the Flamingos were better-known for their ballads, you wouldn't believe it from the wild dance routines on this clip!

The line-up of the group at the time was Nate Nelson, Tommy Hunt, Jake Carey, Paul Wilson, Zeke Carey and Terry Johnson. In addition to singing, Terry Johnson played guitar and Zeke Carey bass.

Marv Goldberg writes:
"In April 1959, the Flamingos appeared in the Alan Freed movie, Go Johnny Go!, singing and dancing a frenetic version of "Jump Children". The routine had been recorded in a New York studio in February. Even off the screen it was a crowd-pleaser: "We always closed with "Jump, Children", says Terry. Note that while the film opened in many markets in April, it didn't make it to New York until the end of July."

Optic Sink has a new album out. They are in my opinion one of the best bands coming out of Memphis, TN right now.

Their song Laughing Backwards is featured on Bandcamp today: The Best Punk on Bandcamp, November 2025.
