As those of you who still hang around tumblr may know, the dates for next year's Solarpunk Action Week have been announced as March 8th through 14th. As with 2019's week, this will be an event focusing on direct action, mutual aid, honing practical skills, and building a new world!

An early announcement gives plenty of time to make plans, get friends together, and involve local organizations. If you need inspiration, check out: #StealThisTag, #SolarpunkResource, #SunDIY, and of course #SolarpunkActionWeek for last year's actions. This account as well as the tumblr will also be posting ideas frequently

So I'm going to stop using the #SolarpunkResource tag. I don't know if it just wasn't snappy enough, but it never caught on like I hoped it would, as a hub for #practical knowledge and #DIY instructions

Instead, I'm going to try and introduce a new one: #StealThisTag . Again, I encourage anyone to post practical resources with this hashtag! Let's help each other out!

Flyers!!!!! Flyers are pretty much the simplest form of praxis there is but they are effective and they are vital. Bonus points if your flyers are advertising a local group, resource, or event, or providing directly practicable resources

Wheatpaste is great, and not as hard as it seems, and may be necessary depending on where and what you're putting up - but regular packing tape works fine 90% of the time. Just line all 4 sides, and make sure you're putting it on a non-porous surface. To make sure it isn't taken down, go for municipal structures like lampposts, electrical boxes, covered bus stops, etc

Just learned about the concept of "green manure" - a mix of cover crops that can be grown and then mowed and either tilled into the soil or laid on top as a mulch. They can improve the quality of the soil by fixing nitrogen, aerating it with deep, penetrating roots, converting the chemicals in the soil into more available forms, providing home for beneficial insects, etc

A lot of these plants can be planted over the winter in plots where you don't have anything growing, and I imagine this would work well with other #permaculture techniques like Ruth Stout, lasagna gardening, hugelkultur, or maybe even straw bale gardening if it's gathered and bound together

One big thing you can do to help build local resilience and promote an alternative economy is map your city's resources on Shareable

You can put down pins for anything from coworking spaces, to community gardens, to little free libraries. And if your city is already mapped, contribute everything you know about that isn't already there and share the link among your friends!
