Sitting quietly by the Turon River, which is flowing — albeit slowly — for the first time in many years at Sofala, NSW.

Lots of parrots of various types, some ducks, and a lyre bird who likes to imitate kookaburras, curruwongs, whip birds, magpies, butcher birds, and others.

Spent a wonderful fay today exploring recent work on the #archaeology of #EastAfrica, especially the #Swahili coast. But in the middle of it there was a moment in which we agreed that this little fellow from the cemetery #Mapongubwe should have a walk on part when discussing medieval gold production around the #Limpopo river that may have passed through #Sofala. He even has his tail on full alert and all that beauty fits onto a flat hand. He may be small, but he is all fierce #rhinoceros.
