#books #sinclairlewis #trump #politics I am reading “It Can’t Happen Here” by Sinclair Lewis. It is copytight 1936, two years before the outbreak of WW2 (in Europe). It is a story about a fictional rise of a totalitarian state in the US which paralleled the rise of the Nazi party in Germany in the 1930s. The dialogue mirrors the talk of the MAGA leaders. That is, the idea that “It’s not us, so it’s OK”. Recommend the book as a comment on the current times.

I looked it up to verify.

While the words appear in Chapter 9 of "It Can't Happen Here", it's actually a combined edit of several lines describing the character across multiple paragraphs.
(Still dead-on though.)

It even mentions the future president speaking at the "Y.M.H.A" (predecessor to the #YMCA.) 😆

Just look at the start of chapter 12 of “It can’t happen here” with an excerpt of the book of dear leader. Sound familiar, doesn’t it?
