Firefighters successfully held the Ferry Fire fire in its footprint and achieved 43% containment, despite continued high winds throughout the area yesterday.

With more accurate mapping being compiled by resources on the ground and from the air, the acreage is now at 10,359 acres.

217 firefighting personnel are being supported by the Central Oregon Type 3 Incident Management Team based out of the Sherman County Fairgrounds in Moro, Oregon.

Yesterday firefighters continued to strengthen and construct handline and dozerline as needed to contain the fires edge. Minimal Impact Suppression Tactics (MIST) are being used in areas along the John Day River Wild and Scenic Corridor to help in minimizing potential long term effects of fire suppression tactics. Resources who worked through Thursday night rested Friday and will be available to support this incident and/or other fire needs today.

Today the weather is predicted to be similar to previous days, with temperatures in the mid 70’s and westerly winds. Firefighting resources will continue mop-up efforts, line construction and strengthening containment lines. Air resources remain available as needed.

"Since our last post, the fire has intensified, resulting in Highway 206 being CLOSED to all through traffic between Condon and Wasco. Please avoid the area and use alternate routes.

Current resources assigned to the incident:

3 Hotshot crews
3 engines
2 helicopters

Aerial support operations are active today. For everyone’s safety, do NOT fly drones in the area—unauthorized drones can ground firefighting aircraft and delay suppression efforts.

We’ll continue to share updates as they become available. Stay safe and follow all emergency orders." Per Gilliam County Sheriff's Office on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/share/1CKLiHnENx/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Feds OK #NaturalGasPipeline expansion in #PacificNorthwest over #environmentalist #protests

By CLAIRE RUSH
Updated 6:41 PM EDT, October 19, 2023

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — "Federal regulators on Thursday approved the expansion of a natural gas pipeline in the Pacific Northwest over the protest of environmental groups and top officials in West Coast states, who said it goes against the region’s plans to address #ClimateChange and could pose a #wildfire risk.

"The project, known as GTN Xpress, aims to expand the capacity of the Gas Transmission Northwest pipeline, which runs through Idaho, Washington and Oregon, by about 150 million cubic feet (4.2 million cubic meters) of natural gas per day. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission gave it the green light in a vote on Thursday.

"#TCEnergy plans to modify three compressor stations along the pipeline — in #KootenaiCounty, #Idaho; #WallaWalla County, #Washington; and #ShermanCounty, #Oregon. Compressor stations help maintain the pressure and flow of gas over long distances in a pipeline.

"Environmental groups criticized the decision."

Feds OK natural gas pipeline expansion in Pacific Northwest

Federal regulators have approved the expansion of a natural gas pipeline in the Pacific Northwest over the protest of environmental groups and top West Coast officials. The project aims to expand the capacity of the Gas Transmission Northwest pipeline by about 150 million cubic feet of natural gas per day. The pipeline runs more than 1,300 miles through Idaho, Washington and Oregon. The owner of the pipeline, TC Energy, says the project is needed due to growing demand. It’s opposed by environmental groups and officials including U.S. senators, governors and attorneys general from Washington, Oregon and California. Those officials say the pipeline expansion would undermine their states’ climate goals to reduce emissions.
