Whether it's #Antifa, #Anarchists, #Anonymous (the real one, not Q-Anon crappo), #Socialists, #Environmentalists, etc. -- seems to me that we're all fighting for the same thing! Getting rid of #Oligarchy / #Capitalism, ruling ourselves, and building a #sustainable life in harmony with Mother Earth and making adjustments for #ClimateChange (and preventing the problem from getting worse). And what is wrong with that? IMHO, nothing! Well, unless you're a billionaire / CEO / Oligarch!

#Trump administration opens more land for #CoalMining, offers $625M to boost #coal-fired power plants

By MATTHEW DALY
Updated 4:22 PM EDT, September 29, 2025

WASHINGTON (AP) — "The Trump administration said Monday it will open 13 million acres of federal lands for coal mining and provide $625 million to recommission or modernize coal-fired power plants as President Donald Trump continues his efforts to reverse the years-long decline in the U.S. coal industry.

"Actions by the Energy and Interior departments and the Environmental Protection Agency follow executive orders Trump issued in April to revive coal, a reliable but #polluting energy source that’s long been shrinking amid environmental regulations and competition from cheaper natural gas.

"#Environmental groups denounced the actions, which come as the Trump administration has clamped down on renewable energy, including freezing permits for offshore wind projects, ending #CleanEnergy tax credits and blocking #wind and #solar projects on federal lands.

"Under Trump’s orders, the Energy Department has required fossil-fueled power plants in Michigan and Pennsylvania to keep operating past their retirement dates to meet rising U.S. power demand amid growth in data centers, artificial intelligence and electric cars. The latest announcement would allow those efforts to expand as a precaution against possible electricity shortfalls."

#Unions, #community groups join forces for #LaborDay #protests against #Trump and #billionaires

Tens of thousands of people expected to hit the streets for a protest over Trump, billionaires

by Sarah D. Wire, September 1, 2025

"Labor unions and community activists are gearing up for mass protests on Labor Day hoping to remind Americans of the power of the #WorkingClass at a time when billionaires are playing an outside role in national politics.

"More than a thousand '#WorkersOverBillionaires' events are planned nationwide in big and small cities on Labor Day and the surrounding days. in an effort to keep the momentum going from other mass demonstrations and keep pressure not only on President #DonaldTrump, but also the billionaires who support or benefit from his administration.

" 'It’s important to show that there is opposition to the Trump-billionaire agenda in every community big and small, it’s not just cities that are united against what’s happening… it’s all towns, it’s small towns that voted overwhelmingly for Trump,' Saqib Bhatti, executive director of Action Center on Race and the Economy, told USA TODAY. 'It’s very important to show the opposition is there in all these places.'

"On Aug. 28 the White House did not respond to a request for comment on the protests. Instead, it provided a quote from Vice President JD Vance about Democrats not voting for the GOP tax and spending bill and a quote from White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt's press briefing about Labor Day.

" 'President Trump believes that American workers are the heart and soul of our economy and our national identity, which is why he’s championed an agenda that puts them first always,' she said. [BULLSHIT!]

"The events, which are locally organized and tailored to local concerns, are led by labor organizations, including the #AFLCIO, national #advocacy groups such as #MayDayStrong, #PublicCitizen and #Indivisible and dozens on local advocacy groups. Some began late last week, others will continue throughout the first week of September."

Putin envoy Dmitriev, Trump envoy Witkoff meet in Washington

April 2, 2025

WASHINGTON — "Russian President Vladimir #Putin's investment envoy #KirillDmitriev met with US officials in Washington on Wednesday (April 2) as the Trump administration continues to press Russia and Ukraine to agree to a ceasefire, two US officials familiar with the matter said.

"Dmitriev, a Stanford-educated former #GoldmanSachs investment banker, is one of the most US-savvy members of Russia's elite, with close relations to some key members of the Trump team. He is the highest-ranking Russian official to travel to the US on state business since Russia's 2022 expanded invasion of Ukraine.

"It was not clear what Dmitriev discussed with the US officials.

"But his visit comes after President Donald Trump expressed his frustration with the pace of ceasefire talks, saying on Sunday he was 'pissed off' with Putin and raising the possibility of imposing sanctions on those who buy Russian crude. Russia is the world's second largest exporter of crude after Saudi Arabia.

"#SteveWitkoff, a Trump envoy who has taken the lead on the Trump administration's contacts with the Kremlin, invited Dmitriev to the US last week, said the US officials. The White House directed the State Department to issue a short-term licence for Dmitriev to travel to the country, a necessary step as Dmitriev faces US sanctions, the officials said.

"Dmitriev may be key in repairing relations that were, until Trump's January inauguration, the worst between Moscow and Washington since the most dangerous junctures of the Cold War.

"The Russian envoy played a role in early contacts with the US when Trump was first elected president in 2016, as well as in building relations with #SaudiArabia, which led to an #oil price agreement under the expanded #OPEC+ producers' forum."

No Escape: #ClimateChange is a growing threat to people already fleeing war

12 November 2024

"People forced to flee war, violence and persecution are increasingly finding themselves on the front line of the global climate crisis, a new report warns, exposing them to a lethal combination of threats but without the funding and support to adapt.

"The report, released today by #UNHCR, the #UNRefugeeAgency, in collaboration with 13 expert organizations, research institutions and refugee-led groups, uses the latest data to show how climate shocks are interacting with conflict, pushing those who are already in danger into even more dire situations.

"Of the more than 120 million forcibly #displaced worldwide, three-quarters live in countries heavily impacted by climate change. Half are in places affected by both conflict and serious climate hazards, such as #Ethiopia, #Haiti, #Myanmar, #Somalia, #Sudan and #Syria.

"According to the report – No Escape: On the Frontlines of Climate Change, Conflict and #ForcedDisplacement – by 2040 the number of countries facing extreme climate-related hazards is expected to rise from 3 to 65, the vast majority of which host displaced people. Similarly, most refugee settlements and camps are projected to experience twice as many days of dangerous heat by 2050.

“ 'For the world’s most vulnerable people, climate change is a harsh reality that profoundly affects their lives,' said UN High Commissioner for Refugees, #FilippoGrandi. 'The climate crisis is driving displacement in regions already hosting large numbers of people uprooted by conflict and insecurity, compounding their plight and leaving them with nowhere safe to go.'

"For example, the devastating conflict in Sudan has forced millions of people to flee, including 700,000 who have crossed into #Chad, which has hosted refugees for decades and yet is one of the countries most exposed to climate change. At the same time, many who fled the fighting but remained in Sudan are at risk of further displacement because of #SevereFlooding that has blighted the country.

"Similarly, 72 per cent of #Myanmar’s refugees have sought safety in #Bangladesh, where natural hazards such as #cyclones and #flooding, are classified as extreme.

" 'In our region, where so many people have been displaced for so many years, we see the effects of climate change before our very eyes,' said #GraceDorong, a #ClimateActivist and former refugee living in #SouthSudan. 'I hope the voices of the people in this report help decision-makers to understand that if not addressed, forced displacement – and the multiplying effect of climate change – will get worse. But if they listen to us, we can be part of the solution, too.' "

Climate Refugees: The Human Face of #EnvironmentalDisplacement

By Marco Kopinke, M.Sc.
February 20, 2025

"In recent years, the world has witnessed a dramatic surge in the number of people #displaced due to climate-related #NaturalDisasters. In 2022 alone, approximately 36.2 million individuals were forced to leave their homes as a direct result of #environmental challenges linked to #ClimateChange. This marked a significant increase compared to previous years, highlighting an alarming trend that is reshaping lives and communities across the globe. The stark reality is that these numbers are not just statistics; they represent families torn apart, livelihoods disrupted, and futures uncertain. As we continue to see the effects of climate change intensify, the number of #ClimateRefugees is expected to rise, creating a #humanitarian challenge that requires immediate attention and action.

"Looking ahead, the projections paint an even grimmer picture. By the year 2050, it is estimated that up to 1.2 billion people could be displaced worldwide due to the impacts of climate change and natural disasters. This staggering figure underscores the urgency of addressing the root causes of climate-induced displacement. It is crucial to understand that these projections are not mere forecasts but a call to action for governments, organizations, and individuals to mitigate the factors contributing to such mass displacement. The potential scale of this crisis demands a coordinated global response to ensure that those affected are provided with the necessary support and resources to rebuild their lives."
