The article is a little confusing. It seems to question the #ancientorigins of #psychedelicuse, but the presented evidences are quite weak.
I recall hearing something along these lines just over a dozen years ago when I was travelling in #Guatémala . The suggestion was that resort to #humansacrifice failed to offset the effects of sustained drought so the elite that had practised it (presumably in order to appease the gods ) lost its authority. The #shamans who took over encouraged and organised migration westward into regions with more plentiful rain and also abandoned the previous practice of human sacrifice .
