Does your employer/organisation ‘celebrate’ or ‘observe’ IDAHOBIT.

An important question for Australia, since the ‘harmonisation’ of International observance day, week and months started with John Howard’s ‘Harmony Day’ to replace the International Day for the Elimination of Radial Discrimination (21 March) - placing emphasis on celebrating rather than observing and discussing modern problems.

We have many days across the calendar year dedicated to celebrate LGBTIQIA+ pride, but very few days to observe and talk about modern discrimination.
It’s hard to celebrate when we turn a blind eye to discrimination. It’s even harder when self-proclaimed allies are happy to celebrate, but unwilling to have those confronting discussions.

So this IDAHOBIT, will you celebrate or will you ‘observe’?

On 20 July 1974 a group of women invaded the Forty Foot bathing place at Sandycove, Co Dublin, by "land, sea and air". The bathing place, made famous by James Joyce in Ulysses, had been exclusively male until then and the women were greeted with sexist abuse and male nudity, according to one of the participants, veteran journalist and campaigner Nell McCafferty.

So a federal court ruled that #Indiana 's #trans youth care prohibitions are likely #unconstitutional because they are based on, essentially, #SexualDiscrimination and don't pass heightened scrutiny.

That's big, and that's rational, and that's good. But that's also appealable, and it only takes one ideology-driven nutcase (or panel of nutcases or supreme nutcases) to say, "Nope, we disagree, carry on." The courts cannot be our only protection here.
