Dear #InfoSec friends. #Microsoft is shooting to re-release #WindowsRecall again in October, so you might want to see if you have time in your busy schedule to re-evaluate "what they've continued to do wrong" with this #SecurityAndPrivacy nightmare

🥳 How do I join Mastodon?
Firstly, you need to register on one of the servers available online (how to find them is described below). Choose the server that best suits your needs and interests and register on it. The registration process is similar to what we are used to seeing on any website. After that, you will be able to set up your account, set up an avatar, and start communicating with other users.

🔍 How do I find Mastodon servers?
You can find a list of servers on joinmastodon.org (http://joinmastodon.org/). This site provides detailed information about the different Mastodon servers. You can choose the one that suits you best, or you can choose the most popular one - mastodon.social (https://mastodon.social/). This server was created by Eugen Rochko, the founder of Mastodon. It is the most popular server with more than 400,000 users.
You can also use a special tool to find instances.social servers. To find Ukrainian servers, you should select "Ukraine" as the country and click on "Apply filters".

I hope this post was useful for you and you learnt something new about this decentralised social network.👨‍💻

Mastodon - Decentralized social media

Learn more about Mastodon, the radically different, free and open-source decentralized social media platform.

🔄 Today we are going to talk about Mastodon, a decentralised social network that has become very popular recently.

After the purchase of Twitter in 2022 by Elon Musk and his controversial decisions regarding the development of the social network, many users started looking for alternatives to Twitter, and Mastodon has become one of the most popular alternatives.

❓ What is Mastodon?
🐘 Mastodon (https://joinmastodon.org/) is a free and open social network that was created in 2016 in Germany.
One of the key advantages of Mastodon is its decentralised nature.

🔄 This means that there is no single server that controls all the data, manages censorship or provides you with alternatives even when your privacy and freedoms are violated.
Instead, a decentralised network consists of several servers called "instances". Anyone can create such a server on their own, manage it as an administrator, and set rules for how it should behave. Or you can find a server that has already been created by someone else and already has a community with similar interests and join it.
All servers are connected, and you can communicate with users from other servers as well if you want to. This makes Mastodon more democratic and flexible than social networks like Facebook or Twitter.

🥸What are the advantages of Mastodon?
1️⃣ Decentralisation: not dependent on one central hub, unlike Twitter and Facebook. This means that there is no single point of failure and that each server in the Mastodon network can manage its own rules and policies.
2️⃣ Security and privacy: has no ads or tracking tools, which means your data will not be sold to advertisers. In addition, users can create private communities to communicate only with those they know.
3️⃣ Open source: available to anyone who wants to use, study or modify it. This also means that Mastodon has a large community of developers who work to improve its functionality and can check its security.
4️⃣ Variety of thematic communities: users can find communities that match their interests and communicate with like-minded people in general.

How is this considered "controversial", really? The world is polluted with poorly designed software and services that mishandle data. Why wouldn't the creators be held responsible for that?

We've spent far too much effort on blaming the victims of data breaches, it's way past time to lay some of it at the correct feet. How often have we lectured about password reuse, or guessable passwords, for example? It's not a user's fault that passwords suck; it's our fault for continuing to make passwords a default. It's not their fault for believing the "military grade encryption" BS on our product pages; it's our fault for making up the BS while not actually protecting data. I could go on.

The Biden administration’s new strategy would shift the liability for security failures to a controversial target: the companies that caused them.
