Would indeed be nice if that would be possible.
My workaround is to do a websearch on my username and mastodon instance. 😅 Sometimes I am lucky

New to Mastodon? Tips: 🧵
I find local & fedi timelines overwhelming; I use themed LISTS. Read more at:

Who to follow? Start with @lisamelton, &
@GottaLaff (for #USpol)
& follow folks who follow them.
Use a client w Quote Tweet, lists, scheduler
ex:
@moshidon (android)
Ice Cubes or Ivory (iOS)

Be kind; offer & ask for help! ☺
PS: be findable: set "make me discoverable" to Yes
@[email protected] yes. Plus: put these people in lists so it's less overwhelming. You can dip in to start the day with your Friends list, and maybe "Good vibes" at lunch and save News for the evening or weekend for example. Set up columns in your client. For mobile, choose a client that handles list-making and list-viewing well. (I recommend @megalodon on android. There are others, too). Enjoy :-)
Yaaay!
Here's what it looks like in my 3rd party client:
under your Settings/Profile, set "suggest account to others" ON, to be discoverable by SEARCH when it gets rolled out! \o/💃

Full Text Search is coming in a future Mastodon patch. Here's what you can do to opt out, if you don't want your posts or profile to be indexed and included in full text search results; https://dotart.blog/dotart-blog/full-text-search-coming (See replies to this post too)
Hey y'all!! ... check out this search!! 😁

Attached: 1 image So now I've got a program that searches Mastodon and lets you filter your search results by # of replies, reposts, or favorites. I don't want this search to generate either no results or overwhelming results, so I wasn't sure how to decide how many instances to search, since filters could range from none to v complicated. The way I handled it is the program looks at how hard you're filtering, maths slightly, and generates a instance search count. More you filter, the more instances searched
I just learned that #Mastodon doesn't allow searching of posts by textual content. Only #hashtags are searchable publicly. The Posts search functionality is for your own posts and mentions only. This is disappointing to me, for sure. Search is how we discover things!
so, uh. If I’m trying to find someone on Mastodent, is there any way to search by name, or by username, or name of their blog, across the maze of federated twisty passages to reconnect with them?
or is it (as I suspect) “know their True Name or GTFO”?
