Shocked to see that Nicola Sturgeon is to resign as First Minister of Scotland. She was by no means a radical, and for many in the SNP she was too cautious on independence. But within the limitations of the system she was a generally progressive and competent politician who, with the Scottish Greens, introduced positive reforms and took the correct stance vis a vis her former mentor Alex Salmond.

Big shoes to fill, will be interesting to see who comes next.

@iansummer1 @davidboatymcboa @Humanistforindy Completely agree, for my own part I'm someone who was raised in a Labour heartland in the shadow of a major steelworks that was closed by Thatcher. Rangers fan, and a former soldier for 20+ years. On the face of it I should be a staunch Labour and Union supporter but we have been let down by Westminster for centuries and Independence is normal. Scotland can be better. #ScotsIndy #ScottishIndependence

When all those #introductions were flying past a day or so back on the mastodon.scot local feed, it was very noticeable that those who expressed a preference were almost entirely supportive of #scotsindy. I'm wondering why that is.

Would Scottish #unionists choose a uk server rather that the scottish one? Are they less vocal about the issue than we gobby #cybernats? Or maybe they find Twitter fine?

Not interested in an argument, just curious.
