Had some fun tonight playing with the SimCity graphic modes on MS-DOS. Always the same city, from CGA mono to SVGA. SimCity, SimCity Classic and SimCity 2000. Everything was captured running on my virtual 80486DX 66MHz.

Was watching hockey until I started watching some videos on Cities: Skylines during the intermission and ended up more interested in that than watching my team being bombarded by a far better team.
As a huge SimCity 2000 fan (shoutouts to @sc2000bot btw), I have to admit that while I've been very interested in playing some modern city builders, I've just never made the jump to try them. I did dip my toe into the more recent 3D SimCity game that ended up causing a huge uproar over being always online among other issues.
I started watching this intro to beginners series on Cities: Skylines and it was interesting enough to get my wife to sit down and watch it with me. It definitely feels inspired by SimCity's ideas and functionality - even having the same Residential/Commercial/Industrial demand meter. Hell, I already own the game already thanks to some Humble Bundle, so I'm going to give it a try soon.
