After centuries of isolation, Japan opens to the West. Foreign ships threaten Edo, as American missionaries arrive, unaware of their predestined fate. With Lord Genji's prophecy, a remarkable adventure begins as a young nobleman meets a reformed gunslinger and a woman fleeing her own beauty.
I first heard Tomoyasu Hotei's Save Me at the end of #SamuraiFiction, a 1998-ish samurai movie. The moon slowly rising above the trees to the song is still my favourite version of it. SF has an amazing soundtrack by Hotei, who also appears in the movie.
This isn't the movie credits version, despite the moon. There's a slower build up to when the guitar (& the song) explodes, 2 minutes in here.
I once asked noted Japanese #Cthulhu mythos and #samuraifiction author, Ken Asamatsu, (over 120 books published) a couple of questions in the vein of "What would a samurai do in such or such a situation?" or "Was there any kind of ceremony or XYZ for such occasion?" And he replied, "I don't know. I just make it up. And you should, too."
I realized then that while research is important, there's no way to know all those impossible little things and obsessing over them will not forward the story.
Help Wanted: Character Name
Need a female name for a "servant" woman serving in the daimyo's castle. She helps the protagonist, Shima.
