I wonder did they ever get the #smell of #Fabric #Softener out? I think probably not. In my experience, with certain materials, it is all but impossible. Maybe if they left it out in the rain and sun for about 6 months to a year. But that would probably destroy the fabric itself.

Our details:

- need it softened for all the reasons, pipes/appliances/glassware/skin
- /extremely/ hard water that otherwise is pretty clean, no iron/chlorine/etc
- municipality does allow sodium-based softening tho we're considering potassium anyway for environmental reasons
