Wow that was a long break, I've got very little time to talk here lately, work and life taking over...

But damn was there some activity on the k3s cluster 😅

Stalwart is finally up and running, with all of my domain names
I've tested what happens when the server is down (because outages do happen) and everything was delivered as expected

And using SMTP2Go to avoid having to maintain an IP reputation

A couple of years ago I fell out with #gmail and migrated to https://privateemail.com

I've now fallen out with privateemail and decided to selfhost (again).

Now running #postfix, #dovecot, #rspamd and others via docker-mailserver. Had to use #smtp2go for outbound due to relay issues.

Also selfhosting #radicale for calendar/contacts and #immich for photos.

So far so good ... seems faster than I had before plus #opensource. Need to let it bed in a bit and keep an eye out for errors.

#SMTP2GO is one of my favorite services to recommend people. It makes SMTP relay set up so much easier than a lot of services out there.

@neil until last week I hosted my family's personnal mailbox on my own mail infrastructure (in a single OVH instance, not on my home connection because I wanted maximum uptime) with #opensmtpd, #dovecot and #rspamd on Alpine Linux, and for deliverability I had to relay through #smtp2go, a professional external relay (too much hassle with IP reputation). I switched to Infomaniak for my personnal mailboxes for 5 reasons:
* I was so stressed to break something each time I upgraded the whole thing.
* I didn't want to take responsibility in case it went down.
* Spam management is not easy, and the mechanisms to make rspamd learn whether ham/spam whenever you move a message in or out the spambox was duct-taped and not satisfying.
* IMO the fact that I was relaying everything through a proprietary SMTP relay was defying the whole point of selfhosting your mail infrastructure.
* Infomaniak price is cheaper than the VPS infrastructure with extra volume space for mailboxes.

However, as I self-host a lot services (this time directly at home) which generate some email notifications, I setup a SMTP service on-prem to handle that, with a dedicated DKIM selector. It work quite good for now.

Any #SMTP2GO users experiencing issues w/their emails being flagged as spam? (by gmail at least)
No issues w/this where I'm using #Sendgrid… and got all the DNS records setup... even in online tests to check if the domain or emails are flagged those are all coming up clear / passed as well - even though during testing I have seen gmail flagging them. wtf

We wish to thank everyone and all of our users for their patience for enduring the maintenance downtime the other day as we switched bulk-email providers from #SMTP2Go towards #Amazon #AWS SES (Simple Email Service).

Even for a relatively small #Mastodon instance like ourselves, we do send a lot of emails each day! Then you have to take our parent organization, #GekkoFyre Networks, into account, whom of which sends many emails too for our clients.

Switching to Amazon made much sense because they are *considerably* cheaper than most of the competition whilst offering many features that nearly all others do not, especially at a price point that is unmatched.

We apologize for the downtime with The Drake Network. An update was made where we have changed bulk email providers from #SMTP2Go towards #AWS SES, which will better support future growth.
