These are basically digital signatures created automatically at build time on all binary artifacts from the project. The idea is that by verifying them - also automatically! - at downstream projects (e.g. OS packaging) you plug one possible supply chain attack hole.

Heh, my personal infrastructure has grown yet again... Caddy as webserver (with HTTP/1.1, HTTP/2 and HTTP/3), this GoToSocial instance, VaultWarden, Stalwart for mail, calendar and contacts and now eJabberd for instant messaging. GoToSocial, Stalwart and eJabberd all are tied into Postgresql for their databases. All nicely running on a Hetzner CCX13 instance with room to spare. @TheLancashireman @jwildeboer Sorry to step on your thread, but needing a 5-part series to self-host email is one of the reasons I stopped doing it. I only decided to take on the challenge again with the release of #Stalwart and honestly I'm so glad that I did. It's incredibly easy to run (a single Docker image), has an admin UI, helps you set up your DNS to improve your spam score, etc etc.

I know it's not for everyone. But I highly recommend it for first-time email self-hosters.

My self-hosted stack is starting to grow... In addition to this GoToSocial instance and VaultWarden, I can now add Stalwart to the list for handling my email, calendars and contacts.
