The Postmaster General’s testimony yesterday was inline with the #EO he was asked to follow. That hearing was a shit show.

From what I’ve heard from other postal people, the Federal Register comments on their proposed rule is likely to break the record on most comments at over 100,000. I got the impression from some that they were unofficially expecting it to fail due to litigation.

My mail provider's spam filter supports SPF and whitelisting — but whitelisting runs before SPF (by design!). Result: spoofed mails from my own domain pass unchecked (my own domain is whitelisted). What's the point of domain filtering if you verify after the bypass? Any engineers have insight into this architecture?

Y’all, did you know that Trump’s handpicked mail czar has declared that unless states give the Post Office lists of all voters, they just won’t deliver mail ballots. Just…won’t deliver them.

This is of course highly unconstitutional, especially since a federal court ruled today that the executive order underlying the request is …wait for it…unconstitutional.

The Postmaster General is attempting to blackmail states into handing over private voter registration information to the federal government.

I think states should seize ballots from USPS if they are going to pull a stunt like this. It's obviously blatantly illegal for a number of reasons.

Edit: I misread this, the USPS wouldn't give you a ballot in the first place. As it stands, you already don't get a ballot in the mail if you aren't elligible.

受信トレイのメールをゼロにしているのはGmail利用者の20%

やじうまWatchに「Gmail利用者の約20%、受信トレイのメールは「0」──衝撃的なアンケート結果が話題に」という記事が掲載されていました。この記事では、海外メディアのアンケートの結果から、「回答者の半数以上にあたる52.4%が受信トレイに1000通以上の未読メールを抱えている一方で、受信トレイのメールがゼロ、つまり一切のメールを残さずに処理している人も19.8%と、全体の5分の1も存在していることが分かったという。」としています。

しかし、この記事の元になっているAndroid Authorityの記事は「Inbox Zero heroes are rare: Only 20% of polled readers have total control over their emails」というもので、そのタイトルでもわかるとおり、「20％しかいない」というニュアンスの伝え方になっています。つまり、元記事は受信トレイは整理して使うべきものという立場であるのに対し、やじうまWatch側は「受信トレイを空に保つ人は少数派である」という点に着目しているように見えます。

私も私用メールはGoogle WorkspaceのGmailを使用していますが、実際どうしているかというと、受信トレイには未処理であったりチェックする必要のあるメールだけを残して、あとは全てアーカイブして使っています。したがって、受信トレイには常に数通のメールだけが残っている状態を維持しているので、記事でいう「コントロールされた状態」であると言えるでしょう。私は特に几帳面ということはないと思うのですが、受信トレイに既読メールが残っている状態は落ち着きません。

一方で、職場のメールの受信トレイにたくさんのメールが残っている同僚も見かけます。メールボックスは検索できるので、いくら散らかっていてもメールが見つからないということはないのかもしれません。しかしそれ以上に理解できないのは、未読メールが何百・何千件も溜まっている人です。タイトルだけで自分には関係がないと判断して、開封もしていないということなのでしょうか。私用のメールであればそれでもいいかもしれませんが、本文に大事なことが書いてあるかもしれないというのは余計な心配でしょうか。

それはともかく、少なくともGmailでは過半数の人が未読メールをたくさん残した状態になっているということですが、それだけどうでもいいようなメールが多いということなのでしょうね。私のメールボックスにも毎日何十通もの宣伝メールが来るので、それらは送り主とタイトルだけで既読にしてアーカイブしてしまっています。結局まともに目を通すのはそれら以外の数通だけですし、それらも通販サイトからの連絡などでしかなく、個人的な用件のメールはほとんどありません。個人のコミュニケーション手段としてはほとんど機能していませんね。

なお、これらの他に何百件ものスパムやフィッシングのメールが届いていますが、それらはGmailの迷惑メールフィルタが弾いてくれているので助かっています。たまに迷惑メールフォルダを覗くと、まともな宣伝メールもちらほら引っかかっていますが、それらは運が悪かったと思ってもらうしかありませんね。Gmailのフィルタがなかったらメールなんてとっくに使わなくなっていたでしょう。

And it does some fast analysis (using `stats` command) too.
