#today I'm carrying on with the first edit pass through my WIP, and since it's the #wordWeavers day for discussing made-up words, conlanging, etc, I wanted to share one of those spooky coincidences that occasionally crop up when you do that.
Background 1:
UK tooters will be familiar with Gerald Ratner, who at one time headed up one of our largest high street jewellery retail companies. He's a funny story in his own right, and well worth a Google if you've not heard it.
Background 2:
One of today's tasks is completing the names of the seven ports my happy band of travellers encounter during this story. I've been using the merchandise that each port trades in as the "seed" for its name.
So here I am, inventing the name for port #5, which trades in gold and jewels. And entering "jewels" into Google Translate (see earlier link to my conlang process) throws up the Indonesian word... ratna.
