The 2019 Chicago mayoral election was held on February 26, 2019, to determine the next #Mayor of the #CityOfChicago, #Illinois. Since no candidate received a majority of votes, a #runoffElection was held on April 2, 2019, between the two candidates with the most votes, #LoriLightfoot and #ToniPreckwinkle. Lightfoot defeated Preckwinkle in the runoff election to become mayor, and was sworn in as mayor on May 20, 2019. The election was officially #nonpartisan.

Up in the air: Pasadena City Council member Bianca Valerio wins coin flip to retain seat

Valerio, an incumbent, defeated challenger Bruce Leamon on Monday as a coin toss decided the race for Position B on the city council. Each received 272 votes in a June 7 runoff election.

Molly Cook, Jarvis Johnson squaring off in back-to-back elections with eyes on vacant Texas Senate seat

Cook and Johnson, the state representative for House District 139, are vying to succeed new Houston Mayor John Whitmire in the state senate. A special election to complete the 2024 portion of Whitmire's term is scheduled for May 4, and Cook and Johnson will again compete in a Democratic primary runoff on May 28.

On Monday, 96,000 ballots had been cast since the start of early voting for the runoff election, according to Harris County Elections Department. The city of Houston has about 500,000 registered voters.
