Christian Menefee, Amanda Edwards lead TX-18 field in final poll before start of early voting

State Rep. Jolanda Jones is running a distant third place behind Acting Harris County Attorney Menefee and former Houston City Council member Edwards, according to the latest survey from the University of Houston’s Hobby School of Public Affairs.

Harris County judge orders return of 40 properties to rightful owners in deed fraud lawsuit

The Harris County Attorney’s Office filed the lawsuit earlier this year against Alba and Jarin Martinez, accusing the couple of running a fraud scheme by falsely claiming ownership of dozens of properties. The couple is accused of forging deeds and transferring property titles to themselves in order to then sell the properties to unsuspecting buyers.

A federal judge has sided with Harris County and other local governments from across the country to restore public health funding terminated earlier this year by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

In March, the Trump administration clawed back more than $11 billion in public health funding that had been distributed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Harris County and other local governments from across the country subsequently sued.

State Rep. Jolanda Jones has declared as a candidate in the special election for Texas’ 18th Congressional District, left vacant since the death of U.S. Rep. Sylvester Turner in March. That greatly increases the likelihood of a runoff.

Harris County sues men accused of selling counterfeit property deeds

Travious West and Wilson Sereal are accused of violating the Deceptive Trade Practice – Consumer Protection Act, according to court documents. The lawsuit, which seeks a permanent injunction, was recently filed against the men in the 269th District Court in Harris County.
