This collapsed portal dolmen is part of the Rollright Stones threesome of monuments along the border between Oxfordshire and Warwickshire, England in the Cotswolds region. It dates from around 6000 years ago, early/middle Neolithic period. Its capstone has fallen and lies beside the upright stones and is not shown in this image. The stones are collected (not quarried) local oolitic limestone and are deeply pockmarked by the weather. It is known as the 'Whispering Knights' and there is much folklore associated with this and the newer nearby stone circle. It is humbling to think that this design from that period is found across Europe, Russia, Middle-East, India and especially Korea (which has at least 40% of the world's dolmens alone!).
