RetroGaming Shorts Part 112 - Supercopter

Supercopter (1984, C64)

Supercopter looks like a "serious" combat flight sim game, but it's rendered in PETSCII text. I feel like there's a lot of potential for this sort of game design, where the "primitive" graphics can help focus the player on the instruments and strategic situation and choices.

RetroGaming Shorts Part 111 - Flord in the Jungle

Flord in the Jungle (1984, C64)

This is a not good simple little C64 game. The background image is nice, but it's directly ripped off from Doodle, a popular C64 paint program. The music is actually nice, but I expect it may have been ripped off also.

RetroGaming Shorts Part 110 - Stinger

Stinger (1982, TRS80 CoCo)

Stinger is like Sega's Head On but made circular and with everything orbiting the center in the same direction.

RetroGaming Shorts Part 109 - Geodestruct

Geodestruct (1985, Commodore 64)

This first person gallery shooter has a nice 3D effect, particularly thanks to the shadows. I think it might be more fun as just one stage of a multi-stage game like Beach Head or Raid Over Moscow, though.

The graphics aren't as exquisitely crafted as Jim Sachs's Saucer Attack, but they're still fine.

RetroGaming Shorts Part 108 - Geisterjagd (1983, C64)

This Pac Man clone starts off slow, but then ramps up to EXTREMELY FAST. This extreme speed makes me ponder a Pac Man clone where you slide until hitting a wall (like Old Tower). It could be an interesting puzzling challenge that way.

RetroGaming Shorts Part 107 - Eliminator (1982, C64)

Defender clone inspiration! Actually, I don't have much to say about Eliminator other than it has an admirable devotion to huge pixel explosions (like the original Defender), and I think the sprites are a bit ugly.

RetroGaming Shorts Part 106 - Niemandsland (1985, C64)

An example of normal PETSCII art. The way PETSCII is rendered here, it looks like it could serve as a rendering "engine" for a dungeon crawling CRPG or Telengard style roguelike (roguelike in the loose modern sense, not the traditional meaning).

RetroGaming Shorts Part 105 - Space Waste (1985, C64)

Unusual retrogame art inspiration! This game uses PETSCII with a twist - multicolor mode rather than normal mode. Multicolor mode is rarely used with PETSCII because the font wasn't designed for it. As such, it's pretty random whether or not a character's appearance is even useful at all.

RetroGaming Shorts Part 104 - Space Warriors (1987, C64)

I don't have much to say about this one, other than it's an Archon clone and I'm surprised there aren't more Archon clones out there. This game looks pretty bad, with none of the pixel animation charm or tactical variety of Archon. But hey it ... uhh ... exists?

@freezr Haha, not on purpose, though!

In my #RetroGamingShorts I try to include the release year in the title.

I think that the release year gives some feeling of context ... you know, what else was out there at the time, different gamer expectations through the years...
