Mazda says many employees are pushing for a new rotary-powered sports car above the Mazda MX-5 Miata. Inspired by the Mazda Iconic SP concept, the idea is a production model using a two-rotor engine driving the wheels directly. The project is still under financial review, but if approved, a modern RX-style sports car could arrive around 2029–2030. 🏎️

Once they numbered in their thousands. Now, time and the changing habitats have taken toll. Where previously the distinctive howl of the rotary engine's exhaust echoed down back roads and mountain passes, now there is only the quiet murmuring electric herds.
To see one of these machines in the wild is now a rare treat. To see two still running is exceptional indeed.
