People who just a few years ago were eagerly going to the front at the call of the head of state now felt that, for the sake of saving the country, he could abdicate. After all, they reasoned, wasn't he the one who got involved in a war he couldn't win? Understanding that if a full-fledged revolution began, the rebels would sweep away not only the Kaiser but also all other imperial institutions - the monarchy, the Reichstag, the aristocracy, the bourgeoisie, the army, the church - the elites decided to get rid of their now too burdensome leader. The Social Democrat leader Ebert made a deal with the newly appointed head of government, Prince Baden, and he announced the Kaiser's abdication. The latter had no strength left to resist…

To avoid disaster, the Russian elites would be wise to persuade Putin to step down now - while the fighting is taking place in Ukraine and leaving its territory is sufficient for peace. Because after the Ukrainian Armed Forces drive them out, there's no guarantee they'll want to stop. They've already tested the waters in Kursk and Bryansk and found nothing particularly frightening.

It should be understood that if the scenario I've described above is realized, the conditions for peace will be very different. Simply returning what was stolen and paying reparations won't be enough. In this case, the agenda may include reestablishing the political system, lustrations, the RDK as a partner in negotiations, and much more that the current establishment doesn't even want to think about."
