I am now officially a Red Hat Certified Engineer!

I'm taking my RHCE test at the end of the month. I feel confident, and that scares me.

Time to tackle the re-certification for the Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) exam.

Spun up a virtual lab environment with an Ansible contol node plus 5 managed nodes to practice with.

All easily done on Proxmox VE, that is running on a server in the @hetzner datacenter.

And the best part: VM snapshots makes it easy to roll back to the original state, whenever it's needed 🙂

Now let's automate and practice 🤓

Here I am, beating my head against a wall trying to figure out why #Samba is refusing to cooperate on this #Fedora #Server install. Even using tools like #Cockpit to tell the share to set the #Selinux contexts for Samba, I still can’t get the shares working.

Just like my #RHCE (RHEL 4/5) bootcamp instructor noted, just disable Selinux.

And with Selinux disabled, all my troubles melt away.

This is bad practice. But even when the tools to make it easy don’t work, what else is there?

@mttaggart @BarbossHack Honestly, #SELinux only really clicked for me when I took a prep class for the #RHCE. Once I grok'd it was about *processes* and that labels and booleans were the levers, it became mostly about just installing setroubleshoot-server and remembering which man pages to look at. SELinux stopped seeming so inaccessible, magical, and arcane from that point on for me.
Which reminds me! Anyone know of good ways to practice for the #RHCE? I had labs from the class, but that access is long gone. Best I can guess is build a Fedora VM (or update my old one from college 🤣) and use my exam book to try and build a (somewhat close) replica of the labs? #RedHat #RHEL #RedHatEnterpriseLinux #Linux #LinuxAdmin #SysAdmin #LinuxSysAdmin
@ReverendLinc I had about a dozen developer VMs going and registered while I was studying for the #RHCE
