For deployments where lithium batteries are not acceptable, I am testing 3S #nimh accumulators.

The #liion charger in #rakwireless is configured for 4.2v max and that is 3x 1.4v. Per https://goughlui.com/2019/04/14/experiment-charging-ni-mh-batteries-with-constant-voltage/ and https://www.ti.com/lit/an/slyt468/slyt468.pdf it might work just fine.

There are interesting cells available like https://camelion.com/product/camelion-ni-mh-hr20-d-10000mah-1-2v-bp2/

3S AAs fit into the operating envelope of the board. I need to test charging later. Just beware: always ready cells do not like trickle charging.

Today I received a new #RAKwireless toy based on #STM32 RAK3272-SiP breakout board.
Works like a charm on #meshcore

There is only the chip on the board (no regulator) but you can directly use a usb-serial converter to power it up and communicate with it ;)

Wow, it seems like I just had a #RAKWireless current sensor go bad after about a month of use.

It was impeding current flow (thus stopping the battery from being charged) and when I swapped it out for a replacement, the replacement worked just fine.
