Coleford Welcomes Walkers and Writers

Forests and woodland have long inspired great works of literature such as J. R. R. Tolkien’s fascination with Puzzlewood invoking scenes from The Lord of the Rings. What better place to look for this then in a town in one of the most, well-known, and ancient forests in Britain; Coleford, in the Forest of Dean.

#Tolkien spent a lot of time here, and it has been presumed as an influence for the great woods of #MiddleEarth.

The woods were a source of iron for the Romans, and I love the feel of 2,000 year old workings left to nature.
