The purpose of this study is to determine the current state of numeracy programmes and support in UK public libraries and identify the role of public libraries in numeracy education in the UK. Many public libraries in the UK have implemented or plan to implement numeracy initiatives. The aim of this study is to explore what types of initiatives are being offered by public libraries in the UK, the benefits of numeracy programmes and support initiatives, and the views of public librarians about their engagement with numeracy education. Numeracy is the ability to confidently use essential mathematics skills in everyday life to make decisions and solve problems. This research project is being carried out as part of the requirements for the degree of MSc in Library Science at City, University of London.
