Personally, I would've chosen something else, but a #GameCube obviously was the easiest to #mod so I'm not gonna complain that they didn't put a #PS3superSlim or #PSone into the case...

I had to get my PS3 repaired recently. The HDMI port was damaged, and needed to be replaced, and the person I took it to (just a local guy I found on Marketplace) did a really great job getting it back up and running.

I bought this PS3 a few months ago (also off of Marketplace) and I’d had issues with the HDMI output since day 1. Eventually it stopped outputting HDMI altogether, but continued to output fine over component. I was worried the HDMI chip had failed, but then noticed the damaged connector on a closer look. Still though, I was worried it wasn’t just the connector and that even with the repair it would still fail to output, so I was very relieved when he texted me telling me the repair was successful.

I actually ended up paying more for the repair than for the console itself ($70 vs. $50). But I really wanted it repaired instead of just buying another one, because it’s a REALLY late-lifecycle Super Slim from 2016 (the same year the PS4 Pro came out!), so I’m hoping that it’ll survive for a good while now that the port has been replaced, thermal compound has been reapplied and an SSD has been installed instead of an HDD!

The Super Slim isn’t my favorite design iteration of the console — that title definitely belongs to the Slim — but the smaller size, greater reliability, younger age and lower power consumption of Super Slims (especially in later models) make them a good choice for a PS3 in 2024.
