PA Statement on Palestine

My last chore before jumping on a plane to Denmark, was dropping off #union flags to my comrade at the #Palestine rally in #Narrm #Melbourne
Lots of love to #ProfessionalsAustralia and #GameWorkersAustralia
Workers In Palestine have asked us to turn out, and here we are!

September 18 5:30pm aest

This is after publishing some points on how to support trans colleagues in the workplace.

Listen to unionists and activists from the National Tertiary Education Union, Queer Unionists in Tertiary Education, and Pride in Protest talk about how they’ve fought for trans rights both within their union, within the workplace, and beyond.

Find out why Gender Affirmation Leave is an important workers demand that needs to be taken up by the wider union movement, what’s been won, and where we need to go from here.

I'm finally on my way home and so exhausted, but so invigorated.
It's hard and a slog, fighting for #gameworkersaustralia, and all #WorkRights.
But today especially so many politicians told us not to give up. That we're making a difference.
And over the last two days even learning about so many other industries and the things we share.
I've never felt less alone.
And how surreal to have so many similar personalities. We are all coordinators, all looking out for one another, and all ready to fight for fairness.

Anyway, here's a cute photo of me and avid gamer Sally McManus

Today #GameWorkersAustralia visited parliament with tech workers from #ProfessionalsAustralia and more from across #actu
It's the first time game workers have had the opportunity to be in parliament house and talk to pollies about industrial issues that effect us.
I'm so proud. This is just the beginning.
And it's surreal, as is every goal we kick. We are real, we're professionals, and we deserve fair treatment and sustainable careers.

I joined my union today.

I'd thought about it before - I've actually joined in a union march before - but didn't really see what it could (or should) do for me. I'm very well paid and treated.

What changed my mind is that I recently found out that the union for the games industry - Game Workers Australia - is a division of the union I'd be joining. I've wanted to make games all my life, and repeatedly chickened out of doing it for a living because, well, it's REALLY hard to do it *for a living*. I like games, but I also like eating food and sleeping indoors.

It's better than it used to be, but the games industry is still a precarious way to make a living. Even at the best of times it's unstable and uncertain. At the worst of times it's abusive. And folks like me make a shitton more outside of the industry than in the industry. It's been this way for decades.

The unions are also pushing to fully outlaw pay secrecy clauses in contracts. I was surprised and dismayed to learn that the new government only banned pay secrecy for *new* contracts.

Anyway, if I can do my small part to help fix things, I will.
