Ésta es la vista que ofrece #Peña #Salón desde la aldea asturiana de #Abiegos #Ponga. Situada entre el desfiladero del Sella (la “Garganta Divina”) y el Monte Peloño, es cumbre modesta (1245 msnm) pero con unas vistas magníficas sobre los #PicosdeEuropa y el Tiatordos.

Aunque no es un caso excepcional, sorprende hallar a la entrada de #Viego esta monumental casona, conocida como “de Rubín”, del indiano Enrique Monasterio, emigrante en Cuba, construida en 1926 cuando el acceso a esta aldea de la montaña de #Ponga #Asturias era difícil.

Desde Vega #Pociello (#Caso) se ve al norte la blanca ladera caliza del #Tiatordos. Este pico, el más elevado del Cordal de #Ponga con 1951 msnm, es muy estimado por los montañeros por las amplias vistas
Mientras la cara sur es alomada, la septentrional ofrece una caída de 500 m.

Los puertos de #LaFonfría y del #Arcenorio son paso entre el concejo asturiano de #Ponga y la tierras leonesas de #Valdeburón, caminos tradicionales de arriería con praderas como la Vega de la Casa donde hay capilla y hubo alberguería y feria el ocho de septiembre a la que acudían ponguetos, casinos y leoneses.

Never really got the New Zealand/Aotearoa obsession of some of my friends and I do wonder why. All I want after reading this book is going there and marvel at the #Ferns. Twenty meter high #mamaku?? (#Treeferns) Forests covered in moss and tiny edible fern fronds? Need to read more about it because I don't see myself flying this far anytime soon.
But I'll dream of #panako and #ponga...

Stopped for a break at the Pureora Forest between Te Kuiti and Rotorua.
Walked the Totara track. It's about 1km round trip, took an hour, as so many birds to listen to. Kaka, tui, toutouwai/robin. Even the white singleted chunky boi was there.
