#PoetryThursday Through the Arched Window - original Dr Jennie poem

YouTube

among the stars
I threw a wish

that dinged satellites
and unsuspecting comets

that flew too far and when turned back

the wish had grown
into a promise

so that

if only now could know ahead
the past would be a path well tread

Twas inspired by a post I saw here last Nov, a pic of a moss-covered drystone wall, hashtagged #mosstodon , posted by @AndrewPDay Thus my poem's called Hashtag Mosstodon. I had to use a different pic, from pixabay (credit in YouTube deets), cos I couldn't contact Andrew for permish to use his original. I hope he's OK whatever he's doing now #PoetryThursday #Poetry #ReadingAloud #AmWriting #AmReading #OriginalPoem #PoetryCommunity

Myy contribution to #PoetryThursday this week on YouTube is me reading my own #Poem *Prat*, an imaginary conversation about a real event that occurred when I was about 13, when some British state schools offered free music lessons (in this case, the cello). Ah, halcyon days, when our governments still believed that it was a perfectly sensible idea to include the arts in state education

Greetings on #PoetryThursday! This morning I loved "Brown Estate, 2018 Tempranillo" by Cortney Lamar Charleston on Poem-a-Day from Poets.org. (Really worth signing up for!) What a graceful use of the sonnet form--almost invisible, but the rhyme scheme is there, and five, well, certainly not iambs, but pulses--to express both the social alienation of pandemic times and appreciation for the love of his partner.

Brown Estate, 2018 Tempranillo by Cortney Lamar Charleston - Poems | poets.org

Brown Estate, 2018 Tempranillo - Violence thrives like violet on the vine, but I’m rare

"Hope is round, an apple in a lunchpack on the kitchen counter,/
A birds’ nest, a candle lantern, a ready bowl."

From my own poem, "The Road Home." In the original it actually says "Hope is a round," but in a short quote that sounds odd! I'm referring to a musical round, but also roundness in general and the cycle of life.

Happy New Year and Happy #PoetryThursday !

@sharonipov Also #PoetryThursday, though no one has used that one for a while!

Becoming One's Shadow

He watches street-lights pop into life.
It is as if the lamps are copying
the one before, each reproduction
slightly less sharp until finally
they taper out of sight.

He imagines his own self
fizzing into being;
a sort of facsimile stood
at a point in space where street
is both beginning and end.
