Improving the photosynthetic efficiency of crop plants has the potential to sustainably increase yields up to three-fold. However, conventional breeding for increased photosynthetic efficiency is tedious and slow due to a lack of reliable and high-throughput methods to assess crop photosynthetic efficiency in the field. In our most recent paper, we present a method to change this by mounting a light-induced fluorescence transient (LIFT) photosynthesis sensor onto an autonomous field robot. Check it out:
