Congratulations to Takeda, which today unveiled a $170 million expansion of its Thousand Oaks facility focused on making medicines to treat rare diseases.

Officials from state, county, and local governments heard moving testimony from Kristin McKay of Project Alive about one such disease: Hunter syndrome, a debilitating genetic disorder.

McKay previously lost her younger brother to the disease at a time when there was no treatment. Her 6-year-old son Charlie also has Hunter syndrome, but treatments are available now – including ones made right here in Thousand Oaks – that mean a better quality of life for Charlie, Kristin, and many, many others.
