#PhDdone 🎓 Yesterday, I defended my PhD in Psychology at the University of Belgrade - Faculty of Philosophy. Feeling relieved, grateful, and very proud to officially be Dr. Lazić. My dissertation, 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘃𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲: 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘂𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗵𝘆𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘀, examined how learning about different levels of vaccination uptake in the country influences motivation to get vaccinated and how we can communicate more effectively in this space. In a multi-method exploration involving five survey experiments with 2,000+ participants in Serbia and the UK and two content analyses of 330+ vaccination-rate mentions in Serbian news portals and 260+ open-ended reasons for (not) getting vaccinated, we challenge the binary between the two theoretical assumptions and offer context-aware strategies for public health communication. I'm also glad that I got to put a lot of #OpenScience into practice, from preregistered studies (one a Registered Report) to open data, code, and materials. And that's just the part of the PhD journey I got to defend. :) Feels unreal to have reached the end of this intense and formative chapter. I'm deeply thankful to everyone who supported me along the way – my supervisor Dr Iris Žeželj, LIRA Lab, my team from the Junior Researcher Programme, and the The Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI) Researchers in the Global South grant that helped make part of this work possible. I'm also grateful to everyone I met at conferences, on academic social media, and through many collaborations – your conversations and encouragement meant a lot. My biggest thank-you goes to my mom. I couldn't have done this without her. You can find the three articles that make up my dissertation, along with open data and other useful resources, here: https://linktr.ee/alelazic

Hey, I'm Dr. Scharlach now! 🎉

As of yesterday, my PhD thesis, "The Construction of Values by Social Media Platforms," was officially approved! #PhDdone
This milestone wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support of my advisor Limor Shifman, mentor Blake Hallinan, the DigitalValues fam, my committee members, friends, and family.

And that’s #PhDDone. I’m still pretty fragile after having surgery last week, but I’ve received very clear instructions to make a big deal out of this milestone so… give me a high five for submitting my thesis!

The anticipated start date is as soon as possible. The position involves working primarily on data management, analyses, and manuscript preparation for a randomized clinical trial – Strong Family Foundations (SFF). SFF is a randomized clinical trial for expecting families with heavy drinking fathers/non-pregnant partners. SFF is an adaptation of a universal preventive intervention to include alcohol content combined with couple level brief motivational intervention to promote health behavior change at the transition to parenthood. The aims of this trial are to examine the intervention effects on fathers’/non-pregnant partners’ heavy drinking, parent adjustment, couple functioning, and co-parenting, as well as to examine these as mediators of intervention effects on parenting and infant regulation. Opportunities exist to engage in other aspects of the clinical trial and to work on existing data from other longitudinal cohort studies, spanning prenatal period to adolescence. More information on our research can be found at https://drrlab.la.psu.edu. Opportunities also exist in this role for working on your own research questions. The ideal applicant will have a Ph.D. in developmental, family, child clinical psychology, or a related field by the appointment date; an excellent background in longitudinal data analysis; a record of peer-reviewed publications; and an interest in developmental and prevention science. In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity. This term position is funded for one year from the date of hire, with a possible extension to two years. Salary and benefits follow NSF/NIH guidelines; more information on benefits can be found at https://www.research.psu.edu/opa/benefits. Applicants must submit an application online at Penn State’s Job Posting Board and should include the following as attachments: a CV, three reprints, and a one- to two-page statement of research interests. This statement should describe the candidate's goals for research and training during a postdoctoral position, including previous experience. System limitations allow for a total of 5 documents (5mb per document) as part of your application. Please combine materials to meet the 5-document limit. Applicants should arrange for two letters of recommendation to be sent separately to Rina Eiden at [email protected]. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. This position requires the following clearances: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.
