Well, not today, but this week.

Image processing on the server side is hard work for the simplest #Hetzner #VPS. I'm generating previews for the uploaded photos and 1 MB photos are already an issue.

First I made a queue of photos to process one by one, but that didn't help. The right solution was to delegate photo resize to another CPU core using #Dart #isolates

There is a better solution, I suppose you are thinking about - #microservices. A separate service for photos processing. A separate service for, for example, email sending... But I'll leave this for phase 2 of my project. Or phase 3...

Ok, so #minio is AGPL-licensed... That means, if you host it, the thing you are hosting it for should be also AGPL-licensed. Or you should buy a license for many thousands bucks annually.

I have a project I want to monetize in the future. I need an S3-compatible storage for it. And I didn't decide on the business model yet, nor on the licensing model. I'm not even sure if it will be open source.

I have options, and the easiest one is #JuiceFS. It is S3-compatible and it has Minio components built-in, but the project has Apache 2.0 license. I'm sure it is because the version of Minio they are using is at least 3 years old, from the times when it was not AGPL-licensed. Good and bad at the same time.

Over the years Digital Ocean has been my goto platform for pet projects. I've used deployment tools, #Hatchbox and #Cloud66 etc. All great - but it gets very expensive when it's coming out of your own pocket..

Never tried Docker, sure I know what it is and why it’s important. Just never used.

Anyhow.

I thought I'd give #Fly.io a try with my current pet project. Postgres, Redis, GoodJob and Rails.

All deployed. No drama. Super Super impressed and it's cheap.
