I took this at Pashupatinath Temple (पशुपतिनाथ मन्दिर) in 2022. It is a sacred Hindu temple & cremation site. I was told that the higher your caste, the further up-river your body is cremated. Once your body is ash, they push it into the river.

Public crematorium in Kathmandu's Pashupatinath Mandir.
Located some 45 minutes on foot from the touristic center of Kathmandu is Pashupatinath Mandir, a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva which is one of the largest places of worship for Hindus in Nepal. It also acts as a public creamatorium. Hindus believe that if their loved ones are cremated in Pashupatinath they will join the eternal path. When I visited in 2013, the place had an eerie atmosphere difficult to describe. Well worth a visit, especially if combined with the nearby Boudhanath Stupa.
